Devansh loves all things genome engineering! His interests lie in developing and applying cool new editing technologies to uncover previously inaccessible biology. He completed his BSc (Hons) in Biotechnology at the University of Edinburgh, where he worked on engineering cyanobacteria for the 2023 Edinburgh iGEM team and anaerobic bacteria in the Horsfall Group to harness their ability to make palladium nanoparticles. He then studied the bacterial–phage arms race in the Typas Lab at EMBL Heidelberg before joining the Sanger Institute for his PhD. Outside the lab, he enjoys running, swimming, hiking, cooking, badminton, painting, and grabbing a pint with friends.
Britt obtained her DPhil from the University of Oxford, where she developed gene editing approaches for neuromuscular disease therapeutics. She then worked on implementing novel non-invasive prenatal diagnostic technologies into the UK NHS as a Translational Scientist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. Britt’s research interests focus on combining genome engineering with single-cell transcriptomics at scale to better understand variant effects in health and disease.
Hashim completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge in the role of the DNA damage response in chemotherapeutic resistance. Before that he did a masters in cancer biology at Imperial College London. Hashim’s research interests include mechanisms of cancer drug resistance and cancer genome editing.
Eloise has experience in CRISPR screening technologies, having conducted arrayed CRISPR screening in oncology within the Open Targets Validation Lab at the Sanger, and pooled CRISPR screening during her PhD at the Francis Crick Institute with Dr Moritz Treeck.
Jose has worked in the biotech industry for the last seven years, including four years at Mosaic Tx, a Sanger Institute spin-off. During these years he has gained experience in large scale data analysis and machine learning applied to cancer treatment. Prior to that, he has worked at the EMBL – European Bioinformatics Institute where he developed and maintained different services both in house and in public clouds.
